Calculating cost price and margin

Recording ingredients and seeing what a dish costs you.

Under Purchasing/sales you work out what a dish really costs you. First you record your ingredients, then you build a recipe per dish.

  1. 1

    Add your ingredients

On the Ingredients tab you enter the purchase quantity, unit and purchase price per ingredient. Onavan works out the price per unit itself.

  2. 2

    Create a recipe

On the “Recipes & cost price” tab you link ingredients to a product and enter how much of each you use.

  3. 3

    Check the cost price

You see the cost price of the dish and, against your selling price, what you keep.

Work in the unit you buy in. If you buy cheese by the kilo, set the purchase quantity to 1 kg — the price per gram then works out by itself.

Purchase price changed? Just update the ingredient; every recipe it appears in recalculates automatically.
